Walking the Cornish Coastpath with Bliss X — Sprocket’s New Favourite Lead 🐾
When I first clipped the Bliss X onto Sprocket’s collar, I was already pretty sure it was a keeper. But after a few long coastal walks, I’m confident this lead lives up to those hopes — and then some.
Comfy, Padded Handle — A Real Hand Saver
Long walks along uneven coastal paths, clifftop breezes and salty mist included, can be tough on the hands — especially when the lead is taut much of the time. Bliss X’s soft padded grip loop is a standout: the plush handle stays comfortable even on cold, windy days, and I found it easy to hold for hours without my hand cramping or getting sore.
That comfort really matters when you’re on a hike that lasts a few miles, and when Sprocket gets excited by a scent or wants to investigate the sea-scented air, the handle still feels secure and ergonomic.
Elastic “Anti-Shock” Flexibility — Great for a Pulling Border Collie
If there’s one truth about Sprocket, it’s that he’s more-than-happy to pull when something grabs his attention — beaches, streams, cliff-side smells… you name it. What I didn’t expect was how gentle the lead would feel in those moments. Bliss X’s elasticated “shock absorber” section gives just enough stretch to soften the jolt when Sprocket lunges or pulls — that means less strain on his neck and less whiplash for my arm or shoulder.
That bounce-back flexibility makes a noticeable difference: rather than a stiff jerk, the pull is cushioned, which helps when walking on the varied terrain of the coastpath — steep sections, loose gravel, sudden distractions — all of which tend to trigger Sprocket’s curiosity and energy.
Perfect for Active, Outdoor Adventures — Coastpath, Countryside, and Beyond
Bliss X doesn’t feel like a lead designed just for short “pop-around-the-block” walks. According to its specs, it’s marketed as suitable for both everyday walking and more active adventures, even running.
That versatility means:
A Few Considerations — What to Keep in Mind
No product is perfect. While the elastic “give” of the shock-absorbing section adds comfort, it does mean you sacrifice a little of the instant control you get with a rigid leash. On busy footpaths or near roads, that slight delay in tension might matter — though in my experience, for normal use on the coastpath it hasn’t been a problem. Indeed, many anti-shock leads trade off a bit of control for comfort.
Finally, it’s worth remembering to inspect any elasticated lead periodically: with repeated stretching (especially if your dog is a frequent puller), wear and tear can set in. Routine checks for fraying or weakness are a good habit.
Verdict: A Winner for Sprocket & Me — and for Coastpath Adventures
Overall, the Rukka Bliss X is a superb everyday-to-adventure lead for an energetic, curious dog like Sprocket. The padded handle keeps my walks comfortable even when they last for hours; the elastic shock absorber smooths out those sudden pulls; and the build — lightweight carabiner, reflective seams, and recycled materials — feels thoughtful for frequent coastal use.
For anyone planning frequent walks along cliffs, beaches, countryside — especially if your dog has a strong pull — I’d recommend Bliss-X without hesitation. It’s made the Cornish coast more fun, and far easier on both Sprocket and me.
